If your Chevrolet Malibu will not start due to a failed VATS key or ignition problem, the Vehicle Anti-Theft System (VATS) is often the cause.
Our VATS disable and delete service permanently removes the immobilizer requirement from your ECM/PCM,
allowing your Malibu to start and run without needing a resistor key or functioning VATS system.
What MoPower Can Offer
Permanently remove VATS security from your Chevrolet Malibu ECM/PCM
VIN rewritten back into the ECM/PCM for a seamless factory match
Fixes no-start conditions caused by failed keys, ignition, or swapped computers
Plug-and-play PCM install – no dealer key programming required
How VATS Works
The Chevrolet Malibu, like many GM vehicles, was equipped with the Vehicle Anti-Theft System requiring a resistor chip in the ignition key.
If the proper resistance is not detected, the ECM/PCM disables fuel and spark, preventing the engine from starting.
Our VATS delete service removes this lock, restoring normal plug-and-play operation.
Failed or missing VATS keys cause no-start issues
Deleting the system allows normal use of replacement or non-VATS keys
Applies to 1997–2005 Chevrolet Malibu models with VATS
Security Light Woes
After VATS delete, the security light may remain illuminated on some Malibu dashboards.
If this happens, the only solution is to remove the bulb or LED from the cluster.
Plug-and-Play Installation
Most customers can install a VATS-deleted ECM/PCM with no additional programming.
In rare cases, a global DTC clear may be required before the car will start.
